Ne-Yo – Making A Movie (22 plays)

Ne-Yo - Making A Movie

Also, I decided to finally start on my book today. I wrote around two and a little more chapters. YAY!

Listening to Ne-Yo, especially anything from the Year of the Gentlemen album, gives me this nostalgia like crazy. I feel warm and safe, and comfortable. I started listening to him the year Michael died, 2009, a very tumultuous year for me. I had a lot of trouble with health insurance, no way of getting the right medication for my bipolar disorder, and was stuck on a medicine that was ruining my brain and body, because it was all I could afford; not to mention, I had the worst insomnia that has ever hit me in my life.

But I had small comforts that year. Michael was a super force of joy in my life. I could escape when I listened to or watched him. And when I discovered Ne-Yo, that same comfort of escapism let me at least smile for a while. I played out the album to death. His music is masterfully layered and melodic. It’s the ultimate soothing potion for me. His silky voice adds to that tenfold.

So I’m sitting here, right now, listening to Year of the Gentlemen and I’m remembering the good parts of 2009, where I had him blasting through my headphones, soothing me to a short two hour sleep, or just bringing joy and warmth to me for a short window of time before returning to the cold, tumultuous time it was for me. I’m thankful I had him when I needed him. Music is the ultimate tool for spiritual healing. I fell in love with him that year after seeing him on a TV special, and I’m glad I did.

Everything good comes in layers. Think about it. Music, literature, people. Things with depth, things below the surface, with levels and layers, are the most engaging.
